Ben Finley

Double Bass, Music Theory, Jazz and Music Theatre programs

Constantly singing a mantra of "music has no limits", Ben Finley has been playing music since he can remember and is on a life-long quest to open its boarders. Starting with piano, then violin followed by trumpet he finally found his true musical love with the bass at age 14. The versatility, sound and still unexplored potential of the instrument seemed to make the electric and double bass the perfect challenge of a lifetime.

Since then, Ben has dived head first into all genres of music that the adaptable instrument itself could offer including rock and funk bands, jazz bands, orchestras and chamber groups. After winning 7 national gold medal standings in the Canadian music competition with his high school jazz band, along with 7 personal music awards, Ben has continued his musical pursuits at the University of Toronto. Ben completed 2 years of classical bass performance and has just switched this year to Jazz performance to broaden his musical scope even further. He has studied with TSO assistant principal Ed Tait, internationally recognized classical virtuoso Joel Quarrington and one of Canada's most recognized jazz musicians Dave Young.

When Ben is not practicing or having fun, he is reading.
