«Music In Summer» Faculty

The 2012 Season

This season, we have prepared for you a very special program and activities that, without a doubt, will be the most memorable experience for all students and faculty.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome back our remarkable faculty:  Mr. Dimitre Atanassov, an outstanding pedagogue, violinist and chamber musician. Mr. Atanassov performed with some of the most esteemed artists such as: Misha Maisky, Shlomo Mintz, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Ingrid Heabler, Antonio Meneses, Boris Belkin, and Regis Pasquier. The outstanding teacher and chamber musician, Mr. Peter Cosbey, our very dear friends and much respected pedagogues Mrs. Mary Fisher and Mr. Julian Fisher, Toronto School for Strings, Mr. David Lakirovich, in all these years, his involvement, first as a student, then as faculty assistant and in 2010 as a faculty member, very positively influenced his artistic growth and development into a first class musician.

From California, Mr. Mischa Lakirovich, a soloist, a recording artist and a teacher, who once again will marvel us with his wonderful wit, great musicianship and excellent teaching. Mr. Tymur Melnyk, Austrian virtuoso violinist, who in 2009 — 2011 seasons captivated both students and faculty alike with his great performances, teaching style and conducting, Mrs. Alina Mirzoev and Mr. Mikhail Mirzoev who are taking care of our preparatory division. would also like to welcome Dr. Oleg Pokhanovski, a prizewinner of numerous international violin competitions, Associate Professor of Violin, String Area Coordinator at the Marcel A. Desautels Faculty of Music University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada. Ms. Sharon Prater, internationally acclaimed soloist and chamber musician, Principal Cello of the Toronto Philharmonia, and a member of Ensemble Vivant.

After last season’s absence, I am happy to announce that Ms. Clayton Scott, one of the foremost Canadian pianist and music educators who developed the highly acclaimed lecture/performance series, Music Through the Ages, a course in music history for the young music students will be returning to JVL in 2012.

We are also proud to welcome back Mr. Ben Finley, a wonderful bassist and jazz musician, Ms. Stephanie Boyd, a promising young American composer, whom last season world premiere of her very beautiful composition “Beyond The Gate” for string orchestra have drawn her great sympathy and admiration of the audience, hugely popular Ms. Tina Torlone, Head of the Vocal Department and Director of the highly successful "Sing Out!" program, and also Mr. Marc Widner, one of the foremost Canadian pianist and pedagogue.

Canadian Summer Music Camp

As a new addition to our Piano Faculty I would like to welcome Mr. Mauro Bertoli, an internationally renowned pianist with "formidable technique and exceptional sensitivity". In 2010 he has been appointed as is an Associate Performance Faculty Member (piano), Department of Music, at Carleton University in Ottawa.

Many of you remember Paulina Swierczek as a wonderful singer who marveled us with her rendition of various arias last two years will be back in 2012 as a faculty and as an assistant to Ms. Tina Torlone, for her vocal studies and music theatre.

Both Mr. Artak Armenious and Mr. Hratch Armenious, who are some of the leading Canadian violin makers, will present yet another aspect and perspective to the fine art of violin and bow making.

I also would like to thank the faculty that in the past, have been associated and have contributed to such a success of JVL SSPA, by sharing a great deal of their knowledge and experience with young students of the Festival, including: Dr. Lee Joiner, Associate Professor of Violin, Wheaton College, Illinois, USA, Ms. Larissa Niurenberg, Mr. Vladimir Niurenberg, Mr. Yaroslav Pugach and Mr. Ilia Shekhtihin, all critically acclaimed piano pedagogues and brilliant teachers, Mr. Paul Zafer, Concertmaster of the Chicago Sinfonietta and the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, USA, and especially to my very dear friend, a person giving me a lot inspiration, Professor David Zafer.
