Stephanie Boyd

Stephanie Boyd was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan and has been composing music since the age of 5. Since then she has studied composition with Dr. Ming-Hsiu Yen, Dr. Mischa Zupko, and Dr. Stacy Garrop and had lessons with such composers as John Harbison, Joseph Schwanter, and Eric Chasalow.
Her pieces have been programed on concerts in Michigan and Illinois, the most recent performance being that of a Trombone and Piano commission, Lullaby and Dreamsequence in the Kerrytown Concert House this past May. In 2008 she conducted her own orchestra, Eighth Hour Encore, in a performance of a movement from her second symphony Celestial in Schreiber Auditorium, Ann Arbor MI. During the past two years she has written pieces for masterclasses with the Orion Ensemble and the Biava String Quartet and has written many chamber works. As a violinist, she has studied with John Kendall and has been in many orchestras, including the Blue Lake International Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Michigan Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Grammy-winning Pioneer High School Symphony Orchestra. She has toured in Eistenstadt, Friedrichshafen, Bad Kissingen, Badenweiler, Helmstedt, Montreal, and New York City. She is interested in the connections between spoken and musical languages, and has written many recently performed vocal pieces. Ms. Boyd currently studies composition with Dr. Kyong Mee Choi at the Chicago College of Performing Arts.
